Coaching Announcements

Coaching announcements are e-mailed periodically. This is our primary way of communicating with our coaches about upcoming meetings, important dates, etc., so please make sure your e-mail account isn't sending e-mail from landparksoccer@gmail.com to your spam folder. If you're signed up to coach this season and haven't been receiving these announcements, please let us know and we'll be sure to add you to the list.

Coach Licensing

We encourage all of our Class 4 (recreational) coaches to obtain at least an F level coaching license. The licensing clinics are valuable regardless of your level of experience, and they get even better as you move to the E and higher levels. At the Class 3 (Metro) level, you must have an E license to be a head coach and an F license to be an assistant coach. Be sure to plan ahead if you're thinking about going Metro next year, because you have to wait six months after taking the F clinic to take the E clinic. For a schedule and registration information for upcoming coaching clinics offered within our league, visit www.sysl.com.
For a schedule of clinics offered throughout the region, visit www.d6soccer.org.

Coaching Resources

2010 Land Park Coaching Manual

Land Park Soccer maintains a library of coaching books and DVDs that are available to all of our coaches. These are a great resource for designing age-appropriate practices. If you would like to borrow something from the library, please e-mail our former coaching coordinator, Adam Ostrander, to make arrangements. To borrow a book or DVD, you will need to leave a check for the replacement cost of the item, but your check will be returned as long as you return the item.

Below are links to coaching websites where you can find age-appropriate games and even complete practice sessions. If you have a website you have found useful, let us know and we'll add it to the list.

Offsides In Under 8

From LPS Board Member "They will call offsides if a kid is sitting back there cherry picking, but typically its not called. Its up to the referee. It almost always is called in U10..."

Parent Code Of Conduct

Just a reminder to let your parents know that they all signed the "Parent Code Of Conduct". This means that parents need to behave in a "sportsman-like" manner during the game. Basically some other clubs have made complaints on some of our U8 teams that parents are getting out of hand.

Please reiterate to your parents that YOU are the coach, the kids should only hear YOUR voice giving them directions from the sideline. Parents should NEVER yell at a ref. If they have an issue with the referees, they need to tell you so you can be the person to discuss the issues with that game's referee staff.

If a parent is out of hand please ask them to take their show on the road.

Parents should cheer and yell out compliments all day long.

Coaching Area

Please remember to stay within ten yards of each side of the mid-field. I know during the excitement of a game I probably break this rule but I'm going to try my best to stay in the middle.

Dogs at Games & Practices

Please be aware that dogs are NOT allowed at any of the schools we play and/or practice at. Dogs are allowed at Land Park North, South, and the big field at Sierra 2. Please let your parents know.

Rain Policy

All games are to be played as scheduled. Please do not cancel games because its wet. Please have your players show up for all games.

The only time we will cancel games is if it's a continuous downpour with
thunder & lightning OR the field is unplayable.

If its wet and raining lightly - the game will be played

First Step --> Please Check the Land Park Hotline Number to see if games
are cancelled (916) 743-5088

Next:
If the city of Sacramento PRD closes the fields, games will be postponed

If in the opinion of the Referee there is a safety issue – the referee may call the game off

If in the opinion of the coach that there is an extreme safety issue - the coach can confer with their Age Group Coordinator, The Referee and other coach and at that time they can call the game off

All postponed games MUST be made up, which is usually on the following Sunday weather permitting. The last day to do Rain out make ups is November 19

Please remember – your first thing to do is to check the LPS Hotline…. 743-5088, then confer with your AGC…..

I misplaced the game card, what do I need to do ?

Search high and low. For the lost game card – we get fined and so will the coach…

Casts On The Field ?

QUESTION: Are there any rules the league has about a player playing with a cast? I'm concerned with the chance of possible re-injury.

ANSWER: According to the Sacramento Youth Soccer League Playing Rules "No jewelry, hair pins or casts may be worn". That being said, per an LPS Board Member: As for casts – these are a tricky subject. It is ultimately up to the referee to allow it. As long as the cast is soft wrapped and does not pose an injury risk to opposing players then we are fine. But remember not all club referees will be flexible on this. I had one of my players in a cast for our first 5 games and the tournament. Mind you two of those games were on other fields, but I spoke with referees at the beginning of the game and told them it was a soft cast…..

It's hit and miss with casts. But make sure its wrapped with a ace wrap then put either a t-shirt around it or something to soften it…

Some of the other club referees still might not allow it…. At the younger ages they usually let it slide especially in rec and if the player is not using it as a CLUB…..

Player Quit.....Refund ?

Answer: No refunds after Sept 1 as we have paid all of our fees.

A parent wants time in goal not to count towards the half a game minimum.

ANSWER: Goalie time DOES count toward the 50% of playing time requirement.

Problem player distracting team ?

If you have a player that is causing a lot of issues on the field please let your Age Group Coordinator know. Your AGC, or another board member, will go and watch practices and games to determine the severity of the problem. From there we will decide a course of action that will be best for all involved parties.

A Couple Girls on A Boys U8 Team ?

This can occur if a boys team has too few players and there are abundance of girls. It will only happen in that manner though, a couple girls on a boys team (NOT a couple boys on a girls team).

League Rules regarding playing time

QUESTION: We have to offer each child at least a half a game of playing time but if they turn down the position we want to put them in, and then consequently get less playing time, that is their choice right?

ANSWER: If a child does not want to play a position assigned, or wants to come out early during their time in the game, then that is their choice. It is time lost.

Rain Outs - When City Shuts Down Fields soccer Clubs Within Sacramento Follow Suit

City Hotline - 277-2336

When the LPS Hotline (743.5088)
says that Land Park Rec games are cancelled then that applies to all recreation games within Sacramento and other clubs within Sacramento. This DOES NOT necessarily mean that games in West Sac, Dixon and Woodland are cancelled. Call the coaches if you have games there to see if they are cancelled or not.

Verify if the game is cancelled or not if your game is at any of the following locations:

West Sac

Dixon

Woodland

Indoor Soccer

Indoor soccer is a fun, fast-paced game that kids really love to play. It helps build strong foot skills as well as speed and endurance. If you're interested in having your team play this winter (U8 & up only) you'll want to get your application in ASAP. Most indoor youth leagues fill up fast, at least for the first session (usually starting in early January), and arenas are taking applications now. Even if you don't get in for the first session, don't worry. There's a good chance you'll get a spot in a later session. A couple of arenas also offer tournaments around Christmas/New Year's that are a lot of fun.

Indoor arenas in the Sacramento area include:

South Natomas Sports & Event Arena —Located off Del Paso Blvd. just outside of downtown. Website: www.southnatomas.com/

ISA —Located off of Watt Ave. near I-80. Website: www.isa2k.com

Off the Wall — Located off of South Watt near Fruitridge. Website: www.offthewallextreme.com

Metro City — Located off of Sunrise Ave. near Highway 50. Website: www.metrocitysoccer.com

Skilled Rec Players

If you have no plans of taking your team Select we highly encourage LP coaches to inform players that have "Select potential" about the Select opportunity. Please let them know of any Select try-outs for their age group, and encourage them to attend the LPS/Boca Academy play dates. I know it is bummin' to lose your best player(s) but that player's soccer skill development will accelerate when playing with (and against) other skilled players.

I Received A Red Card, Now What ?

The referee will send the 24 hour send-off report to the SYSL PAD Chairman

The PAD will hold a Hearing early in the week, following your game, to review the send-off report

At this Hearing they will determine what kind of "sentence" you will receive (i.e. suspension from an 'x' amount of games, etc)

After the PAD delivers their verdict you have the option to appeal the verdict and sentence
